WHAT TO EXPECT

How exciting that you're celebrating your babies next big milestone! Each milestone can be super emotional for us parents, but what a better way to celebrate than to have a personality photoshoot or let your little one smash up some cake!

Most parents worry about feeding their baby sugar or ask what if my baby doesn't enjoy cake. In my experience, the cake smash is more about making a mess both with their hands and their wooden spoon. most littles ones do taste their cake, but they don’t eat very much they just enjoy playing!

Some babies will dive right in and others need a little bit more encouragement, so prepare to get stuck in yourself and get your hands messy! If they are still unsure we can use their favourite snacks and hide them in the cake!

Our session will start off with some nice smiley photographs of your little one before we introduce the cake, this is where we can capture some family &sibling images too!

We will then bring in the cake & let the fun begin!! At this point we often use the spoon to break up the cake and crumble it onto the floor (most babies prefer to eat it off of the floor. but don't worry I use a clean sheet!)

Some babies will sit and play for a while, others will move on quickly! But I will still snap away and capture your babies personality!

Once the cake smash is finished you have the option as to whether you would like a splash session too! This is where I bring out my small tub with bubbly water and your child can splash about and clean up - win win!

We then finish the session off with a lovely soft towel and your baby is clean and ready to get dressed!

HOW TO PREPARE

  • Try to feed your little one cake a few times before your session so they can get used to the texture & taste
  • Always discuss any food allergies or dietary requirements and let me know if there are any bath products that your little one is allergic to beforehand
  • Try out some messy play with play-doh, food, paint or icing in the weeks before, so they are used to the texture of soft icing
  • Bring a favourite toy in case they needs a break or distraction
  • Bring a sippy cup with some water for your little one as they can become quite thirsty when having so much fun!
  • Try to plan in a quick nap before your session so they aren't too tired
  • Bring along some of your child's favourite snacks so we can hide them inside the cake for a little bit of encouragement
  • Bring along a clean change of clothes & towel for little one
